It has been said that, the origin of the olympic games began in Olympia, Greece sometime around 776 BC in honor of the Greek god Zeus. The games were held in order to show the physical strength of the people of Greece. Back then, the only sport people competed in was track and field. But about 1500 years later in 1894, a noble man decided to create the modern day Olympics games: which would be a way of bringing together sports, cultures and education.

This became a chance for people to collaborate with different races and backgrounds around the world in order to create some unforgettable moments in history. As the years went by, the olympics committee began to add many different sports to the games, in order to give everyone the opportunity to be a part of something so great.

This was beneficial, especially to women who until the 1900s weren’t allowed to compete in the amazing games. This year, the 2012 summer Olympics running from Friday July 27th to Sunday August 12th live in London UK has been great thus far. Previous competitions have left us wanting more. In addition, it seems like China and the U.S have been dominating most of the sports.

The Olympics has always been an amazing series of events. Also, being able to witness history such as this and following up with lifetime experiences is an exciting thing. Although, you may not be physically present at the games it is still wonderful to watch from your TV screen with your family and friends.

There is nothing better than seeing people who have trained to their fullest their entire lives achieve their dreams and live up to their expectations. In the Olympics, everyone is a winner no matter what. Striving for what you want and knowing you have reached your goal and having fun while doing it is an outstanding achievement. I for one am excited to watch the rest of the competitions.

I must add that, although gymnastics has been my favorite, I am truly looking forward to the start of track and field because that’s when our African athletes finally get a chance to compete and bring home the gold medals!

We hope this has been a great read for you; however, please feel free to tell us what has been exciting for you thus far in the 2012 summer Olympics!
