Instagram is an application for iPhone, iPad and now Android devices which grant you the opportunity to become a “model or professional photographer.” According to Wikipedia, (Yes I used Wikipedia, I’m lazy so allow it) “Instagram is a free photo-sharing program launched in October of 2010”.
Now, as you have noticed, Wikipedia® said “photo-sharing” but we have diverted from that idea.
It has gotten to the point where things meant to be tweeted or posted as Facebook statuses are being posted as a picture on Instagram. There is no reason why “I am going to take a shower”, “I am bored”, “I am going out”, “today is a good day” and etc, should be considered a photo. That is why we have twitter and if you really want to stretch, you can use Facebook. Maybe I’m being a bit harsh, since these apps were created for people to post texts as pictures, which I guess is understandable; however please don’t abuse it.
Another issue is the whole ‘#NoFilter’ caption. To be honest, I really didn’t know what that meant until recently. For those who don’t know, it simply means “A photograph that hasn’t been altered by running it through any photo software”. Now this is cool but should that be a public service announcement? I’ve noticed a few guys doing it as well and I was appalled (I know what you’re thinking, yes I unfollowed them), because there is no reason a guy should take a picture of himself and say #NoFilter. That’s just violation of the #ManCode.
I have one quick question for the ladies, when you say ‘#NoFilter’, does that exclude the six layers of makeup and weave? You all can tell me later. It’s cool that you didn’t filter the photo though, the natural picture and beauty is obviously portrayed (discern the sarcasm).
In addition, I’ve noticed the ridiculous amount of hash tags people put on just one photo. Sometimes I see about 20 different Hash tags ex: #NoFilter, #SomethingLight, #FneGirlNoPimple, #ImGettingIT #JustDoingMe #NaturalBeauty #ImDreaming #WeOutchea, etc all under just one photo. Seriously, how many different things can you be doing when you’re just standing there? #PleaseStopWithTheUnncessaryHashtags and yes I did it too…annoying right? Can someone please enlighten me on why someone would hash tag a whole sentence?
Also, for those who like pictures just to gain followers please stop NOW. If you want the person to follow you simply ask, don’t like a photo just so the person can follow you and then go back to unlike it. Is it really that serious?
Do you really need 5,000 people following you to feel important? Do you really need a million people to like your picture for you to know it looks good? Come on! Just because people don’t like your picture doesn’t mean you should delete it. If nobody likes your picture, does it mean it’s ugly? Probably not, so have some confidence and enjoy your own picture. Those who follow people hoping to get a follow back should just give up, if they want to follow you they will, so don’t follow the person and go click on all of their pictures so they notice you’re following them.
People who have 5,000 followers but are not following anyone, what is the point? Do you feel like you have fans now? You scroll down your page and all you see is your own photos, what is the point of joining? Oh how can I forget!?!?!?!?! You love seeing yourself right?
Let me not forget ‘Throwback Thursday’, now who came up with this idea? Show your face so I can chop slap you! You people really wait until Thursdays to share a picture from your past? What constitutes a throwback picture anyway? I see people posting pictures that were taken only a week before on Thursday claiming it’s a ‘throwback Thursday’ photo. I don’t know what the requirements for a photo to be considered ‘throwback’ so I guess it is ‘throwback’.
Here is how I think throwback Thursdays work, people start going through their photos over the weekend and during the early part of the week and be like “Oh Snap!! Imma keep this one for throwback Thursday. Watch me get madd likes on this yo!” Okay, maybe not quite like that, but you get the picture.
I’m just venting a bit, I guess I’m salty, can I get some charity likes on my pictures? Maybe I need some new followers. Follow me on twitter & instagram @LibWinS so we can all have fun sharing our life, like at least 15 of my pictures so I know it’s real! Oh I almost forgot, if people don’t post a picture of an event they attended, then the event was ‘boring’ or maybe they were never there. Hahahaha let me go ahead and prepare for ‘Throwback Thursday’. I have to go through all of my old Facebook photos to find which ones I want to post this week!
